The Incident

Last week’s heavy rains, peaking on Friday, 6th March, caused widespread disruption across Nairobi—from major roads to residential estates in low-lying areas like South B, Pipeline, Embakasi, and Roysambu.

The Kenya Meteorological Department had forecast the downpour in its Heavy Rainfall Advisory No. 02/2026, warning that rainfall would persist from March 3rd to 9th, with intensity peaking between March 4th and 7th.

For insurers, the claims are now coming in. Thousands of homeowners are discovering damage to their properties and belongings.

What Homeowners Are Claiming

Early indications from affected estates show a surge in claims for:

  • Floors, walls, and foundations — Water damage, buckling, dampness, and efflorescence
  • Collapsed perimeter walls — Often requiring structural assessment
  • Contents — Furniture, carpets, appliances, and personal belongings
  • Outbuildings — Garages, sheds, and servant quarters

Our Commitment to Technical Rigor and Empathy

In December 2025, our Managing Director completed advanced training with BDMA E-Academy on “The Flood Recovery Process: Understanding People’s Everyday Realities.”

This specialized program reinforces our firm’s commitment to combining technical rigor with genuine empathy—a combination that matters most when policyholders are at their most vulnerable.

Flood claims are never just about water. They are about disrupted lives, anxious families, and the long road to recovery. Our adjusters are trained to hold both truths: forensic precision in assessing damage, and genuine understanding of what policyholders are experiencing.
